Karen Riley, author of "Whispers in the Pines: The Secrets of Colliers Mills" discussed her book and shared many interesting Pinelands tales with us. She is presently gathering more Pinelands tales for a second book. We look forward to having her back when her new book is published. It will center around stoies of people who live in the Pines. |
Barbara Bolton, Museum Curator, presented a brief overview of the formation of the Tuckerton Railroad, followed by Bill Kloc presenting a running demonstration of a variety of pre World War II trains. Mr. Kloc also offered appraisals of engines and cars brought by train collectors of all ages. A video of the Tuckerton Railroad was available for viewing in the adjacent Giffordtown Schoolhouse Room. A good time was had by all - young, old, and in between!

Pete Stemmer, editor of the "Bass River Gazette" historical newsletter gave a talk and slide presentation on the early families that settled in the Bass River area of Little Egg Harbor Township including the Adams, Allen, Cramer, French, Loveland, Mathis families. |
Barbara Bolton presented a brief history of the Parkertown section of Little Egg Harbor as an introduction to Betty Shinn's slide tour of Parkertown and facinating stories which made the history and people of Parkertown come alive. Parkertown stories and remembrances offered from the audiance complemented Betty's presentation, and a good time was had by all.

Sam Liefred who edited two books on the businesses in New Gretna, Tuckerton, Parkertown, West Creek, Mayetta, and Manahawkin featuring old advertisdements and photos talked about old area businesses. He featured Tuckerton businesses that he remembered that are no longer in existance. Audiance members shared many remembrances of business long gone. |
Well, we were able to hold our annual Clam Town Flea Market, originally scheduled for Saturday, September 6th, on Saturday, September 13th. Possible showers held off, and we ended up with a pretty nice day. A good time was had by all. |
Tim Hart, Historian and Executive Director of the Tuckerton Seaport, discussed Little Egg Harbor during the American Revolution. We learned many interesting things about the culture of the times and local events that related to the Revolution. |
Bob Butler, President of the Tuckerton Historical Society, spoke about his experiences, mostly in Italy, during World War II. Many members of the audience joined in sharing their experiences. A variety of displays regarding WWII in our area were enjoyed by all. |
Members of the Historical Society and the community gathered together in the Little Boro Hall on South Green Street to enjoy Bill Bolton's home made clam chowder and holiday goodies. Old fashioned Christmas decorations and displays brought back pleasant memories of many Christmas pasts. |
