The following events were sponsored by the Tuckerton Historical Society during the 2004 calendar year.

Barbara Bolton (left), Museum Curator, and Shirley Nugent, History Resource Volunteer, presented a program emphasizing the pioneering efforts of Leah Blackman in writing and publishing Little Egg Harbor History in the 1800's. It was held at the Tuckerton Library as part of the Ocean County Library System's "Women In History Month" program series. The display case to the left exhibits manuscripts and artifacts related to Leah's times and her writings.

Author James B. Kirk III presented a talk and slide presentation on the oyster industry and Captain Thomas Rose Lake's 1878 diary which chronicled a year in the life of a 22 year old Atlantic coast captain of the oyster sloop "Golden Light." The book is available at local bookstores or through the Down The Shore Publishing Company at their website or you may call (609) 978-1233. It is a must have book for local history buffs and those interested in the New Jersey oyster industry. Budd Wilson, a retired archaeologist for the State of New Jersey, gave a talk on Pine Barrens' industries and agriculture at the Giffordtown Schoolhouse Museum on Saturday, April 17th at 2 PM. He discussed Charcoal Making, Iron Furnaces, and Glass Factories as major Pine Barrens' industries. Slides of his excavations at Batsto and Martha were particularly interesting.

A Friendship Tea and Picnic was held Saturday, May 8th at 12 noon at the Little Boro Hall, 220 South Green Street. A good time was had by all. |
Duke Dupuis, as Ebenezer Tucker, presented a lively picture of the influence of Ebenezer Tucker on the Little Egg Harbor area. He emphasized Revolutionary War happenings in the area and other world events to place Tucker in the context of his time. |
The Tuckerton Historical Society is proud of the first place award for its Tuckerton Railroad float entry in the Tuckerton 4th of July Parade. |
Appraisers Marilyn and Dan Melega conducted a local Tuckerton Antique Road Show at the Giffordtown Schoolhouse Museum on Saturday, July 24th. They offered appraisals for a wide variey of antiques. |
Memories of the March, 1962 Storm were presented at 2 PM in the Giffordtown Schoolhouse Museum by a panel of survivors including members of the Electric Company crew who couragously worked to reestablish power on Long Beach Island. It was followed by a slide presentation of scenes taken during and shortly after the storm by Dan Woolson. |
The history of the candle and how they were made yesterday and how they are made today was presented by James Quinlan from the Tuckerton Candle Shop, Route 9, Tuckerton, NJ. at the Giffortown Schoolhouse Museum at 2 PM. |
